I read the article and would have to agree that this person should have their medical costs covered. If a visitor to another country were injured we would ask for no less than to get medical treatment.

What sent me over the edge was the comment that this illegal person was going to sue for pain and suffering. Have him go back to Mexico and file that suit. That government should pay the damages for them not being able to provide ample work and support for thier citizens that they come to the US illegally and rake us over the coals. I don\’t want my taxes going up because he lost wages, that he should not have been paid because he wasn\’t here legally.

I am not anti-immigrant, I am the daughter of an immigrant, but everyone should have to go by the same rules, apply then admit, not come here in the dark of night and assume you are welcome to all our services – YOU AREN\”T!

I too am of an immigrant family that came here legally, obtained citizenship, learned the language and embrassed the American way of life ( which includes paying taxes and giving something back to the community). The problem I have with this article is that one important word \”ILLEGAL\” seems to be cast aside in the judgement . This gentleman is here illegally, reaping monetary benefits from our system and he (or his attorney)has the nerve to file for pain & suffering ! What is wrong with this picture?

If the same thing happened to an illegal in Mexico he would have been thrown in jail for six years.

The article states that he is not eligible for medical payments in any case (the medical provider takes a hit now) and if there was no insurance on the vehicle, who is he going to collect pain & suffering from? That should not be covered either! I am sorry that he was injured, but the system should work the same way for everyone, unfortunately.

IF HE SHOULD RECEIVE COMPENSATION FOR PAIN & SUFFERING HE SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REMIT TO THE TAXPAYER-SUPPORTED FUND FOR CHARITY CARE AS HE IS NOT A CHARITY CASE,
MAKING OVER $20,000 ANNUALLY AND HE DOES
NOT PAY TAXES. HOW DOES HE QUALIFY?

Will everyone who posted please contact your US Senators and Congressmen (and local politicians too) and voice your opinions. Let them know if they don\’t take care of this issue the way you want, they will lose your vote.

Thank you for the great words of advise, I have already voiced my opinion with my Senator, Congressman and even wrote a letter to President Bush. I have spoken to my neighbors about the issue and encouraged them to do the same.

… And time is of the essence because if the NJ \”supreme\” court thinking is extended, these \”resident\” aliens, formerly known as illegal, will be voting. Then the inmates really will be running the asylum and making us pay for it.
