Having spent time as a crewman on a 41 UTB at CG Station Belle Isle and later on a tour boat regulations are needed.First,
tour boat company I worked for gave little or no training to any of the crew.
Second crew were told…\”if it\’s not safe don\’t do it\”.For a person like myself who had an idea of what safe was due to my CG training that was fine. But to a high schooler who has never been on anything larger than a 21\’ ski boat it means nothing at all.

What is worse no training was ever offered on safety unless required by regulations and minimum at that.

The accident this past summer on Lake Champlain was tradedy. What will it take to get the USCG to issue regulations that will force operators to train and operate for safe sane operations.Unfortunately do alot more have to die before the USCG issues rules with teeth.
