Talk about higher standards and morals? Look at the postings for this article that attack the catholic church because of theft of one. This has no comparison of the troubles the church has had publicly the last couple of years. Why bring it back up because of a priest who supposedly stole some money. It looks like to me that Travelers is the one who stole money (Collecting a premium and not paying). I hope there is a bad faith (no pun intended) for Travelers and the Church collect 10X.

So he releases a statement through his lawyer that he MAY NOT have been a good bookkeeper. Now, I\’m no genius either at bookkeeping, but I would sure know if hundreds of thousands of dollars were to mysteriously begin appearing in my personal accounts. What a load of dung. Just once, I\’d like to see people take responsibility for what they\’ve done wrong.

So the catholic church goes after those that steal money from the church, but set back and do nothing when priests molest children, in effect robbing the kids of their childhood and innocence.

    What a sad thing.
I am not suggesting the priest should not be punished if he stole the money, but I dont think the catholic church will miss a million bucks, they paid out far more than that in hush money.

Exactly. He was \”forced to resign,\” presumably by the bishop, and not shuffled from parish to parish or diocese to diocese to keep a lid on the scandal. We know whose ox was gored this time, don\’t we?

or steal money from their church or temple or have children out of wedlock… it is a question of individual morals, education and family values. All these are not very seriously taken in this postmodern world. Laws have to be applied unmercifully to these \’religious\’ subjects, whose worst offense is cheating the people who have faith in their investitures.

I am not defending anyone who has done wrong, but if you just want to bash the Catholic Church, do it in another venue.

I agree, not only the \”papists\” are child molesters. Indeed, public school teachers these days are making pederastic priests look like pikers.

I love how the atheist and Non-Christians all jump on the band wagon to bash the Catholic Church (That includes Insurance Journal). Many more non-christians and atheist are doing these things too. But for some reason the Christians and the Catholics make the headlines. Could that be because the media is controlled by a bunch of non-Christians and atheist?

One needn\’t be an atheist to be concerned about the high cost, in material and emotional capital, of priests abusing their flock, just as if one exposes or decries public school teachers molesting students it doesn\’t make him anti-education.

Read the prophets and tell me, is God anti-semitic just because He is critical of Israel? Had the bishops A) Not ordained sodomists and B) Punished molesting miscreants who snuck in, there would be much less scandal than there is.

The reason that the priests and the Church are held to a higher standard than \”non-christians and atheist… doing these things too\” is that the Church and priests are supposed to have higher standards than non-Christians and atheists. Doesn\’t judgment begin at the house of God? Yes it does, and more awsome words were never spoken.

Where is it written that Atheists lack morals? The definition of an atheist is merely someone who does not believe in the existence of a good. It has nothing to do with being a moral or immoral person. And your statement that priests and The Church have higher standards than non-Christians is blatantly Euro-centric and biased thinking. While a Christian may not agree with Islam or Buddhism (or pick your choice), there are certainly people with high moral standards in non-Christian faiths.
