I\’ve seen misdemeanors get more time than that–maybe the sentencing guidelines required the judge to consider the value of the loss; perhaps $2,000 isn\’t worth more than a weekend in the local hoosegow these days!
It doesn\’t say anything about restitution either. Did she get to keep the dough? Maybe if she had pleaded guilty instead of going to trial they would have sent her to the Hyatt for a weekend instead of the slammer!
This just goes to show how the court system doesn\’t consider insurance fraud cases as that serious! What the heck – we all know how much money these Insurance Companies take from us \”poor\” consumers! So what if someone decides to take it back under false pretenses (their thinking – NOT mine!).
I feel sorry for the investigators and officers that spent time on this, what a waste. A sentance like that has to make them feel like they are just wasting their time parading these white collar criminals in front of judges. I have seen shoplifters get a stiffer sentance.
