Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced that Deborah J. Odum of Annapolis, was convicted of felony insurance fraud and attempted felony theft after a jury trial in the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.
Odum, 51, is presently employed in the Imaging Department of the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund. The convictions follow a joint investigation by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Maryland State Police and the Office of the Attorney General. At trial, evidence was reportedly presented that Odum submitted fraudulent medical bills totaling approximately $2,000 to State Farm Insurance in support of an automobile accident claim.
The submissions, fraudulently created medical bills and receipts purportedly from the Anne Arundel Medical Center and Maryland Primary Care Physicians, were faxed to State Farm by Odum from her office at the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund.
At sentencing, Odum could face up to 15 years in prison on each felony count.
