Who \”broke the law\” – the tavern & Robert Nunez II did.

Whose action resulted in the accident – clearly Robert, but indirectly the barman at the taven(s) assisted get Robert in the state that resulted in the accident, so did the maker of the drinks Robert had and the owner of the tavern for supplying the venue etc etc.

If Robert had of hit and killed someone when driving drunk, then who should be a fault? clearly Robert and only Robert. The buck stops with him!

Our parents legacy to us was a generation that understood and took responibility for its actions. We, on the otherhand, have taught our children, that as long as the lawyer gets paid, someoone else will pay for your mistakes.

I am sorry about his misfortune but I\’ll bet money he had a fake ID or drivers license showing he was over 21.

Never mind the fact that the 19 year old was breaking the law in trying to obtain the alcohol in the first place.

Forget the fact that the bars didn\’t pour the alcohol down his throat.

In fact, disregard any semblance of personal responsibility by someone that was legally considered an \”adult\” a year prior to the incident.

Instead, continue to perpetuate the fallacy that you can lay the blame for everything negative that happens to you squarely at the feet of someone else.

Let\’s see…smokers, McDonald\’s junkies, now drinkers. Who\’s next? I\’VE GOT IT! I\’m a nervous, hyper-active person with insomnia…It must be Starbucks fault that I drink 2 Triple Espresso Lattes every day! Think I\’ll sue them because I now have a twitch that just won\’t go away…

Feel sorry for the kid that he had a wreck, but on his own admission, it was his fault for drinking and driving. You can\’t tell me he shouldn\’t have known better just because he wasn\’t 21. What a farce.

What a load of crap. I am sure the bar did not pour the drinks down his throat for him, nor force him to drive home. Additionally, he was breaking the law himself by drinking underage and also by driving intoxicated. He should not be able to blame others for his own illegal conduct.

What\’s next, a burglar suing a lock manufacturer for making it too easy for him to break into a house?

I feel sorry for the injuries this young man received, but even my 12 year old knows that drinking and driving are a bad thing.

I guess the alcohol reached his lips and got into his system without his touching it or putting it down his own throat! Perhaps someone put a gun to his head and made him drink it? Yes, the bars were wrong in serving it, but if they checked for ID and he gave them a good forgery, the responsiblity is his alone. The article did not say if this were the case. Our society is quick to take the blame off individuals who make bad choices. It\’s not our own fault we were stupid. It\’s a disease or someone else\’s fault. People are too quick to forget that they have personal responsibility for themselves and that the choices they make have consequences. We are lucky he didn\’t kill or maim someone else, but society would probably say that wasn\’t his fault either. I can only hope a jury won\’t be stupid enough to award him any damages.

It\’s no wonder that today\’s parents have a problem getting their children to understand the concept of taking responsibility for your own actions. It is cases like this where the underage child knowingly broke the law and was injured as a direct result of his own actions that teach them to point their finger elsewhere and make someone else pay for their stupidity and lawlessness.

One has to be responsible for their own actions. Passing it off to the bar/restaurant is no remedy for this. This person should not collect a dime, and the court should not hear the case.

I\’m a little late in getting into the debate. Wow, 7 comments in 6 minutes. That has to be a record! I agree with everything that was stated by the other readers. What a sad state of affairs that the bar owners are dragged into something like this. I hope he takes the case to court & is awarded $1 for his own stupid actions & irresponsibilty.

Hey Massachusetts, you can stop this by voting for conservative politicians.
