The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved more than $5 million in disaster aid to the State of New York to help fund recovery efforts in several New York counties and local jurisdictions following storms and floods in early April.
At the request of Gov. George Pataki, President Bush signed a major disaster on April 19 authorizing federal aid to help New York recover from the April 2-4 flooding.
FEMA’s Public Assistance program reimburses government units and certain private non-profit organizations for emergency protective measures taken in response to the storms and flooding, and for repair of damaged structures. FEMA pays 75 percent of eligible costs; the state and local governments share 25 percent.
To date, the following reimbursements have been approved:
Broome County: $300,771 for debris removal, emergency protective measures, road and bridge repair, and park repair for Broome County; the Towns of Conklin, Chenango, Kirkwood, Lisle, Sanford, Triangle, Vestal and Windsor; the Deposit Fire Department, and the Union-Endicott school district.
Chautauqua County: $276,887 for debris removal, road and bridge repair, emergency protective measures and utilities repair for Chautauqua County; the Villages of Brocton, Cassadaga, Forestville, Fredonia, Lakewood, Mayville, Silver Creek and Sinclairville; the Towns of Arkwright, Chautauqua, Cherry Creek, Ellery, Ellicott, Ellington, Gerry, Hanover, Mina, Pomfret, Portland, Ripley, Stockton, Villenova and Westfield; the Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative; the Ashville and Stanley fire companies, and the Association for retarded Children.
Chenango County: $185,649 for debris removal, emergency protective measures and road and bridge repair for the Village of Greene and the Towns of Greene, Pitcher, Plymouth, Preston, Sherburne and Smyrna.
Columbia County: $189,627 for road and bridge repair for the Towns of Ancram, Chatham, Hillsdale and Stuyvesant.
Cortland County: $438,089 for debris removal, emergency protective measures, road and bridge repair, and park repair for Cortland County; the City of Cortland; the Villages of Homer, McGraw and Marathon; the Towns of Cincinnatus, Cuyler, Freetown, Harford, Preble, Taylor and Virgil; the McGraw school district, and the Cortland, Cincinnatus, Cuyler, Homer, Marathon, McGraw, Truxton and Virgil fire departments.
Delaware County: $902,297 for debris removal, emergency protective measures, road and bridge repair, and park repair for Delaware County; the Towns of Andes, Bovina, Colchester, Delhi, Deposit, Hamden, Hancock, Harpersfield, Kortright, Roxbury and Tompkins; the Villages of Delhi, Hancock and Sidney; and the Arkville and Tompkins fire departments.
Greene County: $1,023,804 for debris removal, emergency protective measures, road and bridge repair, building repair and park repair for Greene County; the Towns of Cairo, Coxsackie, Durham, Greenville, Halcott, Hunter, Jewett, Lexington, New Baltimore, Prattsville and Windham; the Villages of Catskill, Hunter and Tannersville; and the East Durham, Lexington and Palenville fire departments.
Madison County: $52,256 for road and bridge repair and debris removal for the Town of Eaton.
Montgomery County: $23,943 for emergency protective measures and road and bridge repair for the Towns of Florida and Minden.
Niagara County: $9,414 for emergency protective measures and park repair in the Town of Niagara.
Orange County: $316,187 for emergency protective measures, road and bridge repair, utilities repair, and park repair for Orange County; the City of Port Jervis; the Towns of Blooming Grove, Deerpark, Greenville and Warwick; the Villages of Cornwall-on-Hudson, Montgomery and Walden; the Goshen and Warwick police departments; the Cuddebackville, Greenville, Johnson, Slate Hill, Sparrowbush, Walden and Warwick fire departments, and the Greenwood Lake Union school district.
Otsego County: $67,177 for emergency protective measures and road and bridge repair for the Villages of Cooperstown, Milford and Unadilla; the Towns of Edmeston, Laurens, Maryland, Roseboom, Westford and Worcester, and the Edmeston Fire Department.
Rensselaer County: $156,622 for road and bridge repair for the City of Rensselaer; the Village of Nassau, and the Towns of Berlin, Grafton, Hoosick, Nassau, Schodack and Stephentown.
Schoharie County: $36,084 for debris removal, road and bridge repair, and park repair for the Towns of Carlisle, Esperance and Schoharie, and the Villages of Middleburgh and Schoharie.
Sullivan County: $796,858 for debris removal, emergency protective measures, building repair, park repair, and road and bridge repair for Sullivan County; the Towns of Cochecton, Delaware, Fallsburg, Fredmont, Highland, Neversink, Rockland and Tusten; the Livingston Manor and Roscoe central school districts, and Woodridge Housing Authority.
Tioga County: $171,876 for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and road and bridge repair for Tioga County; the Village of Waverly; the Towns of Barton, Berkshire, Candor, Newark Valley, Owego and Richford; the Owego-Apalachin school district; the Waterman Conservation Education Center, and the Tioga County Fire Bureau.
Ulster County: $12,832 for emergency protective measures for the Town of Shandaken.
Westchester County: $4,420 for debris removal for the Town of Greenburgh.
State University of New York: $26,100 for debris removal, various locations.
New York State Thruway Authority: $43,060 for road and bridge repair on a section of Interstate 87 in Orange County.
