It’s all about deep pockets. It has nothing to do with if the company was actually liable. The old lady driving probably had min liab limits if any insurance at all. So the good members of the jury felt the family had to be compensated and this was the only solution they had. Too bad, I don’t think this will hold up on appeal either.

The olderly lady ran a stop sign! Am I missing something? This is outright crazy? I don’t care what this lady did, but she knew teh light was red, she had better make sure the way is clear before turning.

Well, keep in mind, this is a “jury of our peers”.

Sorry, but I am not an old shriveled up retired prune who has lost all sight and hearing and mental capacity to know right from wrong. These jurors are NOT MY PEERS!

I agree with you 100%. Now these days, most of the juries don’t care about who is really liable. All they care about is who was victim & who has deep pocket. I don’t think it’s possible to prove how long the traffic light was on red. If I were the old lady & killed other driver, I would came up with any excuses I can find.

I am so glad the parties responsible will have to pay. Money is the only Language corporate america understands. you do sub par work and someone dies? you will pay.

People in America keep wondering why Insurance rates keep going up? One reason is that juries keep spitting out large awards against those with the deep pockets instead of those that are responsible. Ok, a light malfunctioned…. thats a reason to cause an accident that kills a man…? It makes as much sence as this jury award.

She RAN A RED LIGHT. The design time of the light should be reviewed not sued. One minute or five minutes she was old and she was wrong. The engineers who designed it did not cause the accident, it prevented 100 others. If the time is too long they are wrong if it is too short they are wrong, engineers cannot win.

Get a grip people, she was 99% at fault.
