Md. Gov.’s Malpractice Task Force Unveils Findings

A task force created by Gov. Robert Ehrlich, Jr., recently released findings on Maryland’s medical malpractice crisis.

“I want to thank Judge Thieme and the entire task force for their service to the citizens of Maryland,” the Governor said. “The soaring cost of malpractice insurance is a crisis in access to health care, and the task force has proven instrumental in my efforts to address it. I look forward to reviewing their work in the coming days and weeks as I work with legislative leadership to craft a reasonable, bipartisan solution to the crisis. I particularly agree with the task force’s finding that comprehensive, long-term reforms must accompany any short-term relief efforts.”

In July, Gov. Ehrlich directed the 22-member task force to conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of Maryland’s growing medical malpractice crisis. Judge Raymond Thieme, a retired judge from the 5th Appellate Circuit of the Court of Special Appeals, served as Chairman.
