Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr., announced the filing of criminal theft and insurance fraud charges against Jeffrey Stevens of Rehoboth, Delaware.
In a two (2) count criminal indictment filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, Stevens was charged with making a false workers’ compensation claim with Rockwood Casualty and stealing funds from that insurer in the amount of $29,365.77.
The charges allege that from June 1997 through January 2002, Stevens falsely obtained worker’s comp benefits from Rockwood in the amount of $29,365.77.
If convicted of theft, Stevens could be sentenced to serve 15 years in prison and fined $1,000. He also faces 15 years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine if convicted on the insurance fraud count.
The indictment follows a joint investigation conducted by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Maryland State Police and the Office of the Attorney General.
