Md. Officials Crack Chiropractor Case

September 24, 2004

Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced that Woody Dorcely, 33, of Gaithersburg, Md., was convicted after a trial on Sept. 21, 2004, of four counts of practicing chiropractic without a license and two counts of misrepresenting to the public that he was authorized to practice chiropractic in Maryland.

Montgomery County District Court Judge Gary Everngam presided at the trial. The Court scheduled sentencing for Oct. 7, and the charges carry a potential penalty, for a first offense, of six months incarceration, a $2,000 fine, or both.

The charges stem from the time period between May 2003 and Oct. 2003 during which Dorcely reportedly operated a chiropractic clinic on Cameron Street in Silver Spring, called Genesis Chiropractic/Wellness Center Inc.

The testimony adduced by the State reportedly proved that Dorcely treated the four patients named in the charges at Genesis Chiropractic, as well as directed how an employee, a licensed chiropractor, treated patients at Genesis Chiropractic. Dorcely has reportedly never been licensed to practice chiropractic in Maryland or in any other state.
