I presently work for a carrier and am involved in a special investigation unit. The amount of claims filed especially by assigned risk drivers is tremendous. I can honestly say 9 out of 10 claims are fraudelent whether they are staged, treating with fraudelent providers, the providers hire plaintiff attorneys to collect on their bills that are involved in fraud etc. The chain is so involved it is scary and upsetting at the same time. Unless congress, homeland security and other such agencies get involved a few carriers will never break this mob. There is money laundering etc. I can honestly speak for most of my co-workers it would be a grand day if this law is passed and if the investigative agencies we have in the North east region were given financial help to focus on such a problem. Then, perhaps the premiums will drop and customers will understand why insurance is so high. A second thought, do we really need to have 50k in No Fault benefits as a mandatory insurance? This alone, if not available, would end many claims and cut the money line to these criminals asap.
