N.J. Pharmacist Pleads Guilty to $16,000 Medicaid Fraud

New Jersey Attorney General Peter Harvey announced that a Bergen County pharmacist has pled guilty to a charge of Medicaid Fraud for reportedly billing the Medicaid Program more than $16,000 for prescription medications that were never prescribed or distributed to patients.

According to Vaughn McKoy, Director, Division of Criminal Justice and Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown, Jennifer Kim, 38, of Bergen County, pled guilty before Bergen County Superior Court Judge Donald Venezia to a criminal Accusation which charged her with Medicaid Fraud.

Kim was the owner/pharmacist of the now defunct Medicine Shoppe pharmacy located in Arlington, Hudson County. Medicaid Fraud carries a sentence of up to three years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Additionally, Kim’s Pharmacist’s license was suspended by the Court for one year. The case has been submitted to the Board of Pharmacy for additional review. Kim is scheduled to appear before Judge Venezia on Dec. 5 for sentencing.

At the guilty plea hearing, Kim reportedly admitted that from March through August, 2001, that she submitted dozens of fraudulent bills to the Medicaid Program for prescription medicines that were never prescribed or provided to Medicaid patients. The prescriptions were reportedly not prescribed by any physician.
