UnumProvident to Handle Claims Management for Va. Retirement System

UnumProvident Corporation announced the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) has selected UnumProvident as its third-party administrator for the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program which covers about 63,000 Commonwealth of Virginia employees.

Under the agreement, UnumProvident will provide claims management services for short-term and long-term disability coverage effective Jan. 1, 2004.

W. Forrest Matthews, Jr., Director of the $35 billion retirement system said, “UnumProvident’s clinical resources, localized service and advanced reporting capabilities are very impressive. We look forward to partnering with UnumProvident to provide members covered under the short-term and long- term program with the highest level of customer service.”

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with VRS,” added Tom Watjen, president and CEO, UnumProvident. “They have been on the forefront of disability management in the public sector and we look forward to taking their integrated disability management program to the next level.”

In addition, UnumProvident is providing VRS with customer reporting analysis capability, as well as Return-to-Work development services that will reportedly help VRS enhance their absence management and return-to-work policies and procedures.
