N.J. Company Employee Sentenced to Four Years in Prison on Theft Charges

New Jersey’s Acting Attorney General Peter Harvey announced that a former employee of a Camden County insurance company has been sentenced to state prison and ordered to pay restitution for reportedly stealing more than $100,000 from his employer.

According to Vaughn McKoy, Acting Director, Division of Criminal Justice and Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown, Le T. Harlin of Voorhees was sentenced to four years in state prison and ordered to pay restitution to the Ohio Casualty Insurance Company in the amount of $101,869.

Harlin, formerly employed as a claims specialist in Ohio Casualty’s Mt. Laurel office responsible for the deposit of client funds and third party checks payable to Ohio Casualty, was charged in a State Grand Jury indictment on Oct. 30, 2002 with theft by deception.

Harlin entered a guilty plea to the charge on March 4, 2003 before Camden County Superior Court Judge David G. Eynon, In the guilty plea, Harlin reportedly admitted that from July 17, 2000 through March 27, 2002, to forging company endorsements with a rubber stamp and depositing the checks into a personal account.

The theft involved 44 checks totaling $101,869.
