New Jersey’s Peter Harvey, Acting Attorney General, announced that a Union County woman was sentenced for her reported role in defrauding an insurance company out of more than $13,000 by filing a fraudulent stolen automobile claim.
According to Vaughn McKoy, Acting Director, Division of Criminal Justice and Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown, Diana Fonseca, 21 of Elizabeth, was sentenced by Union County Superior Court Judge Stuart Peim to three years probation and 100 hours of community service. Fonseca was also ordered to pay restitution to Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in the amount of $13,527 and to pay a $5,000 civil insurance fraud fine pursuant to the Insurance Fraud Prevention Act.
On Feb. 6, Fonseca pled guilty to an Accusation which charged her with theft by deception. At the guilty plea hearing before Union County Superior Court Judge James Heimlich, Fonseca reportedly admitted that she falsely reported her vehicle stolen on July 27, 2001 in order to submit a fraudulent stolen vehicle theft claim to Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Liberty Mutual paid the claim for a total of $13,130.72.
Fonseca also reportedly admitted that she arranged to have another person dispose of the vehicle in order for her to submit the fraudulent insurance claim.
