Alliant Appoints Ex. VP for Specialty Claims

Alliant Insurance Services has hired Steve Shappell as executive vice president for specialty claims and legal.

Shappell will provide client advocacy, strategic consulting, and claims resolution options clients across the United States, the Newport Beach, California company said in a press release. He will be based in the Denver office.

Shappell has more than 28 years of legal and risk management experience as an established claims advisor, specializing in manuscripting policy language, leveraging solutions, and successful claims resolutions, the company said.

Prior to joining Alliant, Shappell was chief claims officer and legal advisory leader for Marsh, according to his Linkedin page. He oversaw a team that provided legal and claims support on directors and officers liability, fiduciary liability, errors and omissions, employment practices liability, energy, aerospace, construction and other specialty industries, Alliant said.

Shappell earned his law degree from University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree from University of Colorado at Boulder.

Eberl Appoints Sales Leader

Eberl Claims Services has appointed Phillip Morris as vice president of sales.

Morris has 14 years experience in sales, marketing, and claims handling, Eberl said in a press release. Before joining Eberl, he was head of growth and vice president of marketing and business development for Syndicate Claim Services in Milwaukee, according to his LinkedIn page. Morris also worked as a general adjuster for The Hanover Insurance Group in Milwaukee.

Morris has also served as a volunteer board member for The Nehemiah Project, a Milwaukee nonprofit organization that operates a transitional living program for boys from families with addiction, mental health and domestic abuse issues, according to Linkedin.

Eberl, based in Lakewood, Colo., was founded by Kirk Eberl in 1987. It was acquired by Cor Partners in 2015 and merged with U.S. Adjusting Services in July.

GRS Appoints Training and Marketing Leader

Global Risk Solutions, Inc., a Miami-based provider of claims adjusting and environmental risk management services, has appointed Colm Keenan as executive vice president and chief of learning and marketing.

Keenan is an experienced claims industry executive with experience as a leader of training, e-learning and technical performance programs, GRS said in a press release. Before joining GRS, he was director of training at Pilot Catastrophe Services and former vice president of e-learning at Crawford & Company.

Earlier in his career, Keenan launched and marketed an internet service company widely used by insurance companies to provide claims training and performance support. Keenan also spent 14 years in claims management research and training at Allstate’s Claims Learning and Development Center as well as its research center, Tech-Cor.

At GRS, Keenan will develop and coordinate training and marketing programs for the firm’s business divisions: Property & Casualty Solutions, Environmental Risk Management Solutions and Complex Claims Solutions. He will oversee in-person and virtual training at GRS’ newly opened Training & Learning Institute in Sarasota, Florida, as well as training for GRS clients, adjusters and staff during catastrophe events. In addition, he will collaborate with GRS’ businesses to create marketing strategies, brand messaging, advertising and social media campaigns, and other marketing activities.

Keenan will be based in Sarasota and report to Chief Executive Officer Arthur “Kip” Radigan.

US Administrator Claims Appoints Claims Directors

US Administrator Claims has promoted Michael Goff to senior director. He will lead all claim operations for the Oak Ridge, Tenn. based company.

In addition, US Administrator Claims said it has hired Greg Whalen as director of general liability and property claims.

Formerly the director of new programs at Appalachian Underwriters, Goff has more than 15 years of experience in insurance and product development. Former roles include senior vice president and vice president, marketing and product development director and as an insurance broker.

Goff received his bachelor’s in business management and administration from the University of Kentucky and his Juris Doctorate from the Nashville School of Law.

Whalen previously served as a director of risk management and safety and as a senior workers’ compensation adjuster. He received his bachelor’s in communications from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and his associates in Workers’ Compensation from The Institutes. He holds adjuster’s licenses for both Kentucky and Georgia.
