Washington Woman Charged With Arson in Home Fire

January 4, 2013

The Pierce County, Wash., prosecutor has filed an arson charge against a 32-year-old woman accused of starting a fire in her home with her four children inside.

Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says the woman suspected her husband was cheating and burned some of his possessions.

Jenny Mena was arraigned Wednesday, with bail set at $100,000. It wasn’t immediately known if she was represented by a lawyer.

Lindquist alleges the woman piled photographs, a gift box and other items on her bedroom floor on Dec. 30 and set it on fire. Court records say a 13-year-old daughter called her uncle in Arizona and told him her parents had fought and her mother was burning her father’s things. The girl told her three younger sisters to open windows and get into a closet.

The uncle called 911.

Lindquist says the woman put out the fire before police arrived.
