North Carolina Contractor Arrested for Allegedly Falsifying Insurance Certificates

December 12, 2014

A North Carolina man was arrested and charged with one count of obtaining property by false pretense, according to a announcement by Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that on Aug. 27, 2014, Ronni Chris Carpenter — while doing business as CRC Contractors — provided a fraudulent certificate of liability insurance to secure a contract to install siding and replace the roof at a Durham County home and collected a $3,183 deposit for the job. The certificate indicated that Carpenter had liability insurance through Erie Insurance Exchange and Harford Insurance; however, investigators allege the policy numbers were false. Carpenter was arrested in September after similar allegations were made by a Johnston County resident.

Carpenter was arrested in Granville County on Dec. 4 and placed under a $20,000 bond.
