As someone that grew up in Smithers, the Volunteer Fire Dept. was as much of a social gathering place as it was a fire dept. Generations of young men followed in their father’s footsteps and continued the legagy of this much-loved organization. It’s a shame to see what is happening but I’m much releived that Montgomery and Boomer will be protecting my grandmother’s old house there in Smithers. WOW! It is hard to beleive that Smithers ever made the news about anything!!!
