Two workers have died in a freak accident at an underground sewage pumping station in Mosheim, Tennessee.
Authorities said one man was electrocuted and the second died of apparent methane gas inhalation about 10:50 a.m. Monday as they worked on electrical components inside the pump tank.
Capt. Jon Waddell of the Greeneville/Mosheim Rescue Squad said, “We think he (the second victim) shut the power off, then tried to rescue his buddy.”
They were identified as Jeremy Goforth, 21, of Mosheim, and Ronnie Carmichael, 49, of White Pine. Autopsies were being done.
The men, employed by the city of Mosheim, about 8 miles west of Greeneville, died at the scene near Interstate 81.
