Crash at Texas Police Academy Injures 7

September 22, 2011

Two police patrol cars collided during a driving demonstration at Houston’s police academy, injuring seven people.

Among those injured in the Tuesday morning accident were five Chinese law enforcement dignitaries. The seven were taken to neighborhood hospitals. Police did not reveal the identities or conditions of those involved. However, police spokesman Victor Senties says none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

He says the representatives were from the port city of Shenzhen on the southern coast of China, which is a Houston sister city. They were touring the academy and participated in a driving demonstration on the academy training track when the two patrol cars collided. He had no other details, but police Chief Charles McClelland said he believed the cars were executing a U-turn when the crash happened.
