This is a very dangerous trend. I’ve seen a lot of vehicle with tinted headlights! Sadly many judges have not yet learned how unsafe this trend is. Most courts ,in my area, allow this to be a fix-it ticket. I think it should be a serious fine.

This whole tint thing is getting nuts, yes. THIS (lights) is exactly the tint which is really dangerous and should be somehow regulated! But instead, they regulate window tint which is .. yes, somehow upleasant for the cops – and I understand their “safety concern” – but in reality, are tinted windows REALLY dangerous? No. And there are legal restrictions for that, in some states quite strict (http://windowtintlaws.org/). There should be more strict tint laws for headlights instead, I think.

While I want everyone to be safe, changing the color of your tail light to a dark shade or red or even grey/black isn’t the issue. The law is created so that a driver that is behind another car can see when a vehicle is slowing down or stopping within a certain distance. If you tint your rear tail lights correctly you can ensure that when you turn on the lights or press the brake that the light is visible within the legal limits. At night you cannot see the red plastic of the tail light. Rather you can see the light that is emitted from the bulb and that is what should be reviewed in these cases. As many individuals are tinting their lights on their own and are making it where you cannot really see the light emitted in a distance that allows someone to stop before hitting the person in front of them. I mean honestly how can you not see a vehicle in front of you where you cannot stop in time unless your going to fast or not paying attention to what is in front of you.
