Missouri Cops Investigating Smash-and-Grab Crimes

January 17, 2013

Police in several St. Louis, Mo., towns are investigating a string of smash-and-grab crimes with a twist: In many cases, nothing is taken.

In six instances over the past few weeks, suspects have busted through the front doors of closed restaurants in Olivette, University City, Clayton and Richmond Heights. Three of the six restaurants were Subways.

KMOV-TV reports that police are trying to determine if the same suspects are involved in each crime.

Surveillance video at the Olivette Subway shows a man stealing $200. But at the Subway in Clayton and two other restaurants in Richmond Heights, nothing was taken.

The suspects have caused significant property damage. Glass doors had to be replaced at each restaurant, a cost of at least $1,000 per door.
