Most people would be in favor of a proposal that would mitigate the damages and suffering that occur when a major storm hits, and it is easy to say “the government” should pay for it. But we ARE the government – we elect the people who enact the programs and fund them through our taxes. It is amazing how opinions change when the thought of paying for the latest great idea – whether it is storm damage mitigation or other worthy causes – becomes the reality of higher taxes to pay for it.
