New York Extends Service for Storm Insurance Questions

New York officials say they’ve set up 24-hour phone service to answer questions from Superstorm Sandy victims about insurance and to help consumers file complaints.

The Department of Financial Services hotline has been operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. since immediately after Superstorm Sandy.

The number is 1-800-339-1759.

Department of Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky said Monday the department is monitoring insurers’ responses.

He says they will “step in whenever necessary to aid homeowners.”
