New York lawmakers are praising the return of trailers full of emergency supplies to Long Island.
Trailers containing food, water and generators were removed from Suffolk and Nassau counties after the 2006 hurricane season.
At lawmakers’ urging, the Federal Emergency Management Agency supplies arrived again on the island this week.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy says having the materials nearby is key because in a natural disaster, “all modes of transportation would be heavily compromised.”
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton says the supplies “arrived with not a moment to spare, as hurricane season is well under way.” The Atlantic hurricane season began June 1 and runs through Nov. 30.
