Underwriting Position

We currently have a position available in our Underwriting team located in Fairfield, California. Level based on experience.

GeoVera Holdings, Inc. is a provider of specialty residential property insurance products, focused on catastrophe exposed property in the homeowners and residential earthquake markets, operating on both an admitted and surplus lines basis.

Our underwriting team supports long and short term business goals and strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives through responsible and sound underwriting. Collaborate with other business units as appropriate to support company objectives. Investigate, research Underwriting issues as assigned. Process exception risks and referrals as required. Operate within an assigned level of underwriting authority as established by Management.

— Essential Functions —

Jr. Underwriter:

• Assist in analyses and projects to develop new products/markets, and to improve results in existing products/markets.
•Underwriting project research to develop and improve underwriting policies, practices, procedures, workflows, and systems. Conduct numerical analysis and make recommendations on exposure management issues. Coordinate projects with affected departments (marketing, I/S, accounting) .
•Assist in projects as assigned. Serve as a liaison between company and 3rd parties, monitor book distribution, pricing, and claims. Test system modifications. Conduct audits, ensuring compliance with underwriting rules, policies, practices and procedures.
•Communicates with agents and individual insured as necessary to assure high quality of data, underwrite exception risks, analyze and interpret coverage, explain underwriting requirements and philosophies. Communicates directly with customers to answer questions or present information.
•Conduct underwriting training, technical training, with other departments including customer service, marketing, and operations.
•Work with the Department of Insurance through Regulatory Compliance on regulatory filings and responses for admitted products.
•Collaborate with Compliance on responses to DOI complaints made by insured.
•Conduct policy reviews ensuring compliance with underwriting rules, policies, practices, and procedures.

Underwriter:

In addition to the responsibilities above

Sr. Underwriter:

In addition to the responsibilities above:
•Lead department in providing Underwriting expertise in Construction and Loss Prevention areas.
•Design underwriting training, technical training, for other departments including customer service, marketing, and operations.

Additional Responsibilities:

Performs other related duties as required and assists with special projects.

—Minimum Requirements–

Education, training, and experience:
•Bachelor’s Degree in related field and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience.
•2-10+ years of Personal Lines Property-Casualty underwriting experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
•Demonstrated knowledge of home construction, maintenance and loss prevention measures.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Homeowners coverage and exposure topics.
•Demonstrated strength in research and analysis; communication and interpersonal skills project management, spreadsheet and other PC software skills.
•Demonstrated sound independent judgment and strong analytic ability in solving complex and sensitive issues.
•Knowledge of standard business policies, practices, and procedures. General understanding of basic analytical and financial techniques. Maintains an understanding and adheres to state specific statues involving underwriting, applicable insurance laws and regulations.
•Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines.
•Works well with management and co-workers
